its a stinker
1935 "the irish in us"
starring cagney and dehallivand
i purchased the DVD because no copies exist online and i didnt check the imdb score.
what could go wrong i asked,
oh gosh, its one of those lowest common audience type flicks.
80% of the film is basically allen jenkins who always plays the most obnoxious dimwit. and theres nothing more obnoxious than classic obnoxiousness. its completely terrible.
cagneys role is basic too. they dont exercise him at all in this.
dehallivand on the otherhand, despite the nature of the cast, is most beautiful and radiant. she has a very likeable easy going type of character in all this, and of course her young 1930s self is completely beautiful.
but by god they stuff so much allen jenkins between her and everyone else. its completely nauseating
imdb score of 6.3 completely nails it. low sixes are generally pretty bad, but its only that high because of cagney and hallivand.
otherwise we are looking at a fiver here
