been seeing
ive finally gotten around to mitchum westerns, and he is absolute tops. its almost better than his smart talking noire roles. its so close that i can barely tell which i like more (the noire of course) but only 2 noire films are really noteworthy here, as to where his noteworthy westerns are numerous.
objectively, yes, i can see that he does better in westerns. his placement in a western role is so much better. but his two good noires are so legendary that it really outweighs anything else reguardless of how perfect hes cast in westerns
mitchum feels to me like a proper john wayne. and i mean this all the way. hes got such a strong male leading character, only minus that god awful obnoxious tone and composure wayne has. mitchum weterns are a total delight. i easily consider them as the very best westerns.
if clint and mitchum were ever riding together on horseback alongside eachother,
the clint films themselves would be represented as clint taking the high road, as to where the mitchum ones would be of mitchum taking the low road. haha.
obviously very different styles of westerns, but both of them tops
