ranking the golden age studios
number one unequivocally is warner brothers,
it is unrivaled in the kinds of things they were producing. hands down most remarkable studio of all time. unrivaled today even by their own self (their current self sucks in comparison to their old self)
next on the list, and easily at number two is columbia. they are in a class of their own. their content differs greatly from the WB, but they were also making all the right moves. such rich history here, also truly remarkable
then you have the rest which can pretty much be cobbled together, but one does stand out among them. i would say enough so to be contradictory to what i just said... if that makes any sense to anyone.
and with that being said, number three on this list would have to be universal studios.
the things they were doing with burt lancaster were especially interesting. he was universals own guy. and they utilized him uniquely, and managed to create their own unique identity. to contribute something unique to the scene which wasnt just a copy or a bastard of the other studios above on this list.
and of finally, then you do actually have the rest of the studios cobbled together.
many good products, and even a few great ones scattered here and there. but nothing like the consistent legacy of WB and columbia
