yes performances seem to be more of a balancing act, as most noticeable with walter brennon, who as far that im concerned is basically the western equivalent of alan jenkins.
but brennon was tamed all throughout. at times i did notice the tendency for that jenkins-creep to set in, but it never crossed that threshold into the all familiar obnoxiousness.
oh yes, believe me, i did notice the use of actual cattle heards. its a bit of authenticity rarely seen in any other western. but the film seems to be dispositioned as a drama piece or whatever you would call it, rather than a period piece. however i was still appreciative.
very decent film, though i would certainly put the blame on brennon when trying to reason with the films potential. him and wayne kind of got something going on, if you understand me. but everyone else (including wayne) really did nail their performances and i did find myself dreaming at times of the open range within the untamed america.
