Follow-up:

My cow plan worked perfectly. I am now able to make cheese at my dairy. I can make butter if I want, but I'm holding off on that until I harvest my sugar beets. At that time, I will install a sugar processing plant. I will then take the butter from the dairy, combine it with the sugar, eggs from my chickens, milk from my cows, flour from my granary, and strawberries from my greenhouses, and distribute them all to my bakery, which will produce cakes. The cakes will net me about $10,000 per pallet. Each pallet holds six cakes, so those are spensive cakes, Lucy.

But that's nothing. I'm already getting a gazillion pallets from my cereal factory, and my tailor shop craps out clothing I can sell for $18,000 per pallet at the worst time of year and $30,000 at the best.

I have bought out about half the other farms in the community. The only reason I don't buy out the whole place is that I probably couldn't keep up with so much planting, harvesting, and other schlepping. There comes a point where you can't get all the required work done because you have so much going on. If the game had decent AI farmhands, I would be able to do more, though even perfect AI could only handle so much.

Since I have little interest in forestry and olive orchards and zero interest in pigs, cakes are the remaining achievement. Once I've done that, I think I will have arrived at the summit of the game. I might yet buy out all the other farms and do the pigs and olives and so on, but it not be long before my empire started to decay because of overreaching. The wiser Romans understood this. They would approve of my empire as it stands now, but they would remind me that all glory is fleeting.
