RE: yes...
quite ingenious really
the key is to work in tandem with vanilla values. its both efficient and also the most functional
very minor leveled list adjustments only for ores and ingots above steel
the rest was just repurposing vanilla stuff.
for example, all the weapons in the game were flagged as non playable, this stops them from appearing in loot containers and in dead body inventory. meaning only enemies use them, they are not for the player anymore.
so now i can edit these weapon stats for some proper stuff as it only applies to enemies.
damage values are absolutely proper and multiply by rank of metal. and all weapon speeds are good and fast.
then for the player weapons, i simply adjusted the recipes for the vanilla crafting items, to produce copies of all the vanilla weapons. this makes non flagged weapons specifically for the player. but use vanilla stats. but not vanilla speed. those are equal with the npc weapon speeds.
so the only way to obtain weapons above steel is to craft them. and the only way to obtain ingots above steel is to fucking mine them.
and let me tell you,
i also changed the requirements for crafting weapons and armor.
dwarven metal i kept at vanilla value, because its plentiful and low tier metal anyway. but you still have to directly obtain dwarven metal from ruins yourself to craft them. no buying from merchants.
the rest of the types of metal, such as orcish and beyond, all have their requirements multiply greatly.
weapons have even greater requirments as they are most important.
and precious ore mines and easily obtainable deadra artifacts are guarded by huge dudes i made with exclusive level 7 combat AI which utilizes shouts and are by far the most aggressive in the game. also imune to mind control spells and shit like that.
im telling you its a blast
of course there are many other changes i made, but this alone is the single most impactful.
ive been playing 40 hours on dwarven metals improving them as i grind smithing.
the improving requirements i also changed. for example the easily obtainable bloodskall blade from the dragonborne DLC needs 4 malachite and 4 quicksilver just to make one single improvement. it actually works well with the flow of gameplay
dragon bones are the last of it all.
and you obtain so many after hours and hours of gameplay.
since dragon is top tier, i set it up to require approximately 80 friggin hours of gameplay to obtain. with the main quest advanced to about 50 or 60% which is about the normal spawn rate for dragons.
the requirements may seem high but its actually proper since this game literally shits dragon bones and dragon hides all over the place
