Agree. Rather schmaltzy, but so was Dickens. Ronald Colman was good as always. A big plus was the absence of female hams like Norma Shearer and Billie Burke.
David O. Selznick was basically infallible. The only person to come close, imo, was Jerry Bruckheimer. I know. It's SOP to bag on Bruckheimer, but he was responsible for some of the most entertaining movies ever made.
