Subject: RE: Coagulated mod?

I ended up turning off all filtering, even though it didn't feel too terribly out of place. I tried the software renderer since it draws the the voxels "properly" (not converting them to polygons) but it crashed every time and I couldn't be bothered to find a way to fix it.

Given the scale of the mod scene for the game, it's little surprise that not many stones are left unturned. I can appreciate the super slick graphics like those in your second link, and while they don't appeal to me, I can see how it can to many people. But you're right about the apparent inconsistencies, which would annoy me to the point where everything else would need to be changed leading to a pretty much entirely different game. Whatever. I'm sure a lot of people like it, and good for them.

I never realized it before, but doom has a really cohesive feel which I refer to as being "chunky". Yeah, it's partly due to the blocky pixels even though I'm not running 320x200 and the limited animation frames which I appreciate the voxel mod maintaining, but also the just the way the weapons feel. I don't know why I never noticed before just how great the shotgun, minigun and plasmagun are. Some things do feel a bit weird at first, particularly player movement acceleration, but whatever. And even though it's not strictly necessary, having mouselook just feels more correct. I can see why this game has so much staying power besides for the most obvious reasons.

Also, E3M2 is some bullshit.
