the performances are very tolerable. there is a hint of simplicity to all of it, but its nothing displeasing by any means.. this is nothing like that roller coaster of sop which cleopatra was.
of course lana turner is much better in this. much better.
aesthetically.
...and in charm
and the lead male starts off a bit boyish. i maybe could descibe his character as maybe a bit innocent and dumb. but this normalizes about 15 mins in. the entire cast seems to be comprised of nobodies but interestingly they introduce a complex unique character which seems to elevate the overall value of the cast, despite himself also being a nobody. hes a mute person, but with lead-supporting role, and plays it quite well. a genuine professional actor. whoever he is.
of course i dont see this film turning into a bucket of pig shit and roman theatrics. but obviously going to reserve any final judgement until the film is over
