diablo 1 is the shit
i... i just love this aesthetic
tristram looks so cool, and the half broken dungeons and crude monsters. its all marvelous. i cannot believe i didnt play this back in 1996.
the simplicity of this games mechanics are tops. very simple items and stats, but its tops. it keeps you going.
of course this is nothing like diablo 2 or any modern arpg but i couldnt give a shit less.
the devilutionX mod for this is incredible.
full controller support, multiple source ports, full internal resolution scaling with all resolutions, rational QoL improvements which feel native, bugfixes, shared stash, the list goes on and on... but of course the controller support is tops.
and personally i feel that 800x600 is the best resolution for this game. higher resolutions do indeed look good, but i just love the low res muddy look which is still preserved at 800x600 but also simultaneously offering larger play area. it looks amazing on my 4k lcd.
normally i run this games in native res, with scaling done on GPU and set to maintain aspect ratio, which looks damn good. but this game does a step further and properly draws a widescreen resolution. so 800x600 is actually something like 1000x600 or so... im assuming.
it just looks good
