RE: book
I've connected most with, for lack of a better term, non linear story telling. Been reading non Americans mostly too. Best books I've read in the past few years: Ulysses (this book got me failed out of a course during undergrad, finally read it 30 years later), Bolano's 2666, Cartarescu's Blinding and now that I am almost finished, Solenoid. I have 100 Years of Solitude on the to read pile. I also have loved the Pynchon I've read, Gravity's Rainbow and V.
Realizing that its ok to not understand everything as you read has been such a liberating thing for me. But I love books that after I finish them I am left pondering "well what about..." I got so wrapped up in that sort of thinking after Blood Meridian I read several published critical reviews, starting with Harold Bloom.
