most of my gear is from around lvl 40-55 still, with the corpse-explosion-homing unique dropping for me at 55 but I have not failed a nightmare dungeon up to about 25 which is lvl 80 mooks. I am around 76 I think. Most of the stuff I have is a legendary affix to a rare with the right mix of stats.
The ancestral stuff is potentially better with the extra stat slot, but they are still often worse than my current 5/5 upgraded stuff. At least worse enough that I am willing to wait for a change.
The paragon boards and the super uniques are the key, so I focused on getting the +4 pts per area as quickly as possible.
The grind from 60 to 70 was pretty bad, but once you can get your nightmare doodads to spawn dungeon at or above your level, it flys by.
I see a lot of chatter about the uniques online, but I have 12 of them currently (10 in stash) and I have even dismantled some lower lvl dupes.
