Subject: RE: Ghost of Tsushima

I like the game quite a lot. The story is reasonably interesting, though I suspect it will have a Jade Empire ending. Some of the side quests are okay; others are just funny, whether intentionally or not.

I like the music, what there is of it. The graphics are nice but nothing to throw a big fit over. Some of the world-building is pretty good; at other times it's very repetitive and a bit lazy. You understand that I'm coming from Horizon Forbidden West, where everything is unbelievably beautiful and meticulously staged. Take a tour of the Oseram/Carja settlement Chainscrape, for instance, which outclasses Red Dead Redemption 2 with its fully functional lumber mill, people with believable pathing, activities, and gestures, as well as an insanely realistic tavern -- the whole world is like this. By contrast, GoT has very rudimentary settlements with stationary NPC's and a lot of repetitious structures.

The combat, however, is excellent. Somebody watched a lot of samurai movies to get so many interesting moves. The combos are fairly well implemented, but the keyboard/mouse porting could use a lot more work. Coming up with sensible key rebinds is almost impossible. In any case, the fights are fun, even with all the magically spawning archers. Right now, I hate the heavies even more than the archers. I can dodge them but only barely. If I see one that's isolated I just try to use kunai and hope they don't go flying towards a stray pig. Maybe the Moon stance will save me when I finally unlock it.

I try to be honorable all the time, but my enemies are scum. I may have to start upgrading my Ronin outfit and putting more points in Ghost stuff.
