Oh no don't get me wrong I did quite like TR2013, I'd say it's a fine starting point for anyone who hasn't played a Tomb Raider game before or coming in from the originals, with a tiny bit of jankiness to it (The shooting mechanics in particular are lackluster, reminiscent of what modern day Naughty Dog is doing with their games, and the nice platforming sections making up for it). Rise did away with the teething problems I had with first game which is why I preferred it.
And you would be correct, Rise's story picks up right after 2013 and I could see there being confusion right out of the gate by skipping the first game.
