Subject: RE: Just bought a new Volkswagen.

and finally, a diseal engine is capital fucking win. there is no debate about this. the reason it generates so much torque is because of the sheer momentum the egine generates. the way diesel is ignighted off of compression alone generates a MASSIVE force. it is such an efficiant and clean process. the only drawback is you cant do it really fast - hence why high rpm's are not the way of the diesel engine.

but mathamaticly speaking, by all means, a diesel engine is much more powerfull than a regular engine. it generates far more energy output per ammount of energy input. whats even more impressive is how diesel engines are much more suited for a small consumer vehicle than anything else. 90% of the engines power band is in the optimal range for its corrisponding sized vehicle. unlike large trucks, there is no need to go into the higher rpm's for upshifting or anything (this is where torque is lost, and hence where efficentcy is lost) you can almost always keep the car in its optimal range. or i should say the car/transmission is designed/programmed to always stay in its optimal range (because you are not towing a massive load).

what worries me the most, is if the transmission is actually designed meet the expectations of a diesel engine and not just some re-hashed bullshit jetta tranny they threw on - for the lulz. looking at basic mechanical drawings of my transimission, it does seem they actually used a larger beefeyr/heavy duty tranny.
