RE: Just bought a new Volkswagen.
the technology gap has closed between diesel and gasoline. u can have a quality modertly high performace vehilce without the waste. if you're a man of cars and engines, then you would know that the hugest problem with gas is making a high compression gasoline engine. the higher the compression, the more powerfull the explosion, the hotter the gasoline engine gets. there is almost no feesable way to counter this (a titanium and/or ceramic alloy engine would cost alot).
high rpm diesel "racing" engines are super complex mechanical forms of trickery that involve super complex ways of venting the explosions. also not feesable.
but a diesel wins because you can now easyly produce a good normal "just as fast as the fucking sedans everyone drives" engine with no negative setbacks and with the benifit of much more fuel economy.
that shit GM did in the 80's was fail. but thats purley GM's fault. not the science behind diesel's fault.
