cons: you destroy your metabolism so that when you do go back to eating normally, your body explodes into a tub of lard.
It's much better to eat many small meals a day. As long as your body keeps getting calories your metabolism is like a steam engine that has those colored logs from Back to the Future III burning in it. You'll have more energy as well, meaning you'll be more prone to go out and do things, meaning you'll burn more of the fat calories than just sitting around being lethargic.
