With you, it's always something. Everything has to be perfect, like there's some alternate universe where they could get non-dead George Peppard. So I imagine the casting came down to a choice between Liam Neeson and Rick Moranis. Since Rick Moranis never likes the movies people try to cast him in, the decision was a matter of simple logic.
My dream is for someone to make a Hawaii Five-0 movie, but would I be unhappy if they couldn't cast Jack Lord? No. I would understand. I would realize that they probably ran into the usual "Jack Lord is dead" problem. There's nothing they can do about that unless . . . unless Jack Lord is one of those "I
thought
he was dead" people. However, I'm pretty sure he's dead.
My top pick for a new McGarrett would be Ricky Gervais. I know that most people would prefer Will Smith, but it's important to get a Brit so he can use an American accent.
