Khergit lancers are scary enough, especially in quantity, though they're slightly more fragile than Vaegir and Swadian knights. If they actually carry lances and do couched damage, they can be badass. For that matter, mounted forest bandits with lances can kill you in one shot if you're not careful.

I refuse to do cattle quests for anybody. Declining doesn't hurt faction relationship, at least not that I've noticed. Rounding up cattle is an excellent way to lose morale and accomplish basically nothing.

I always run for marshal and accept. I do this because I hate running around on campaign with idiot lords. Until I become marshal, I only accept scouting missions, and once I've scouted all three locations, I strike off on my own. As long as you don't go back for your reward, you suffer no penalty for straying from the campaign party.

You are absolutely correct about Rhodocks holding position. This is why I work my Riding skill up to 4 and get a heavy charger. Those things are tanks. Infantry mobs can't stop them and they do nice damage.
