I once read the autobiography of a Gunther Gebel-Williams, a famous circus lion tamer. Actually, he worked with a variety of large cats. He argued that the main thing the cats worried about was hurting or killing each other. They counted on him to prevent this and would get angry with him if things got out of hand. I don't think they especially liked each other or cared about each other, especially when different breeds were mingled. It was the violence and unpredictability they disliked. Cats like routine. Fights are disruptive.
