Orcas are considered smart by animal standards which is nothing at all like human standards. they are considered smart because they can be taught to follow hand signals and whistle blows to do simple things like jump through a hoop or make a splash because it will get fed if it does.
That article suggests that this animal is pissed off about being locked up for years and has some pent up revenge on it's mind which is silly because it is incapable of thinking such a thing, let alone comprehend time.
I equate this to someone having a large dog for years, it's perfectly well behaved and the owner never had any problems at all with it. Then one day the family is over and little Timmy is playing and does something to startle the dog and it jumps or flinches and knocks little Timmy over. Then everyone screams and beats the shit out of the dog like it did something wrong. This story is similar except that the orca weighs a bazillion pounds and will crush anything it comes in contact with.....
