Subject: RE: PS3 or a media center PC?

ps3 does upscale dvds. and it does a pretty good job of it, too. if you have a LOT of content of your media server it can get really cluttered and hard to look through caise its just a big list. i think there is some limited sorting and grouping. you can stream stuff to it from your pc library over the network, which works pretty well. the ps3 supports a lot of video formats if youre into downloading video files and playing them. but not ALL, so you might have to convert every once in a while. ummm... you can do youtube and flash video in the web browser, but it's cumbersome. ps3 plays ps3 games, obviously. blueray playback is great. theyve been doing software updates to keep up with blue ray special features. its pretty simple (i coudl see it being too simple sometimes). netflix works just fine. i think hulu blocks the ps3. ps3 isnt hacked (not well anyways), so you will likely buying your games and not emulating. if any of that pirating scene is your cup of tea, that is.

as for the pc, could end up being a hobby getting everything working in windoes media center and keeping it working. people say xbmc is great, ive never been a fan. people say linux things like mythbox or whatever is good, linux is always a red nightmare. windows media center is pretty damned good. organization sand finding stuff is easy enough. youre going to be able to get about anything working. flash content will work better. things like hulu will work. gunna be more expensive, and take a lot longer to get going. might be maintaining it a lot. might be noisier depending on your build. pc will play pc games and emulators. but would you really wanna play them on a tv? keyboard and mouse on a table? or a controller? more stuff to buy and setup all the time. but you can pirate games and emulate easily

there. theres some stuff.
