I'm not too concerned about the size, as I have plenty of space on my TV stand. I like the flexibility a full atx mb provides, and a bit more breathing space. Any recommended mb manufacturers?
As for sound cards, I have two multi-channel firewire units - one of them being a pretty damn good yamaha unit, so I got that covered.
